"They sucked his brains out."

Posted : 16 years, 11 months ago on 6 May 2007 05:43 (A review of Starship Troopers (1997))

Okay, I saw this in the theater with a few friends and we certainly didn't expect to get much out of it. But, when we realized how graphic and violent, over the top and ridiculous it was, we had a good time.

Yes, it is kinda stupid at times, but if you don't expect much in terms of scintillating dialog, just stay for the parts where they blow up the bugs and stuff. You don't have to think much while watching this one.

"And my favorite, Wheeee!"

Posted : 16 years, 11 months ago on 6 May 2007 05:10 (A review of The Fairly OddParents)

This is my second favorite Nick show. Yes, I indeed watch many cartoons, I was planning to be an animator type guy in my younger days.

This show I lump in with SB and the like, sure it's a "kid" show, but there's plenty for a slightly older crowd. Many of the non sequitur and pop culture/ movie references will go right by kids, that's why it's funny. It's gotten better as the years have gone by, they seem to have gotten their patter down.
I think people miss out when they don't try out a cartoon show, try a few episodes, you may get a laugh. If not, well, fine.

I'll send them cheesy movies

Posted : 16 years, 11 months ago on 6 May 2007 05:01 (A review of Mystery Science Theater 3000)

The first time I saw this show I had no idea what it was, but proceeded to laugh through most of the show.

These guys did what we all do when we watch a bad movie, make fun of it and put in our own dialog. They came out with some clever stuff, the first few seasons were the best though imho.

Good stuff, they could make some more episodes with recent stinkers in the box office.

Power Rangers? Pff...

Posted : 16 years, 11 months ago on 6 May 2007 04:56 (A review of Voltron: Defender of the Universe)

Yup, classic 80's, giant fighting transformer robot thingys with a crew of stereotypical characters. Fat guy, little nerd, strong hero, melancholy annoyance, and the pretty princess of girl power. This made fighting robots cool way before Power Rangers came around.

I caught it early morning the other day, and yikes... bad animation, bad dubbing, cheesy dialog, and pretty boring. But when I was a kid, it was awesome!

I got you babe

Posted : 16 years, 11 months ago on 6 May 2007 04:51 (A review of Groundhog Day)

A lighter movie with Bill Murray which has him stuck in the same day, over and over again. I'm sure you've all seen it.

Cool concept which makes you wonder how much one person can change through the course of one day, especially when you learn all the variables.

No joke, when this was first out, I watched in twice in the same day. Hm, that's like, irony, or something.

"On the DVD, Harold Ramis states that the original idea was for him to live February 2nd for about 10,000 years. Later he says that Phil probably lived the same day for about 10 years."

I'll never make it!!

Posted : 16 years, 12 months ago on 2 May 2007 03:27 (A review of Jak II)

Okay, so I might have thrown my controller a few times trying to beat a race or mission or two, but that's another reason to not use cordless, this way it doesn't fly too far with a cord attached to the system.

The buddies are at it once again in a run down, unknown city, and they have to save the day! A bit darker than the first one, but there is plenty to do and side missions to try out.

It was a lot of work (read: stress), to try and get all them orbs to make myself all snazzy and kick all the bad guy butt, so I'd say it was worth the frustration to get that satisfaction.

Girl Power!

Posted : 16 years, 12 months ago on 2 May 2007 03:17 (A review of Final Fantasy X-2)

Whoop-dee-do, the first FF sequel, although it was a good one to continue on. I docked it a couple points because it is a bit cheesy and girly. I still love the genre and FF, but this was one of the lighter ones in the series. Lots of side missions, beautiful cgi in between, and those wacky girls cruising around having a good time.

Alright, I put a Hell of a lot of hours into this, and I still don't think I'm going to get 100%. Screw it, I'm going to look up the perfect ending online.

But I will get the Mascot.

Bahston, it's killa

Posted : 16 years, 12 months ago on 2 May 2007 03:11 (A review of The Departed)

What a wicked good movie, guy.

There were a ton of familiar faces in this, and it actually wasn't distracting. Great plot line around Leo and the gang, and he does a heck of a job at playing both sides. Twists and turns and you don't quite know what's going to happen next, or who's going to come out on top...

We also paused it during the last 10 mins so we could go eat dinner, that was kinda rough.

Honestly, I liked Alec Baldwin in this, I just get a kick out of him.

Turtle Power!

Posted : 16 years, 12 months ago on 2 May 2007 03:06 (A review of TMNT)

Went to this one with a few people my age, and dare I say it, it was actually good.

It was a pleasant surprise to see, as I was secretly hoping that it wouldn't suck big time. The turtles are brought back once more to save the day, and it's a bit more serious than the campy 80's cartoon. But, the animation was of course great, the storyline was decent, and it was just simple and fun.

And that's of course what I look for in a movie. I'm big into voice-over actors too, so it was good for me to pick em out. Yeah, I'd pick it up on DVD, after the price dropped a bit.

Btw, Leonardo is also the voice of Tidus in FF X.

Skreeee!!! *smash*

Posted : 16 years, 12 months ago on 2 May 2007 02:56 (A review of Burnout Revenge)

Well, this is the only game so far that my girlfriend has asked that we play together, and seems to get way too confident when she kicks my butt.

Which only happens occasionally.

....

This game is faaast and has the best feature of any racing game; you run into the other cars around you on purpose.

Sweet ride, tons of tracks and unlockable cars, and I can thank my brother and his wife for getting us hooked on this one.
