(A review of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End)First review? Alrighty. Went to a full house show of the 3rd PotC, and it's one heck of an action packed adventure. It's darker than the previous one, lots of random characters gettin the sword, and just the overall tone of the film. I do have to agree with the critics in that there were some elements that were confusing, there are a few things that seemed odd and unexplained, but I'll see it again, hoping that they'll be cleared up. You have to see it on the big screen for the amazing effects and battles, and there are plenty of twists and turns as each character tries to fill their own agenda. It's tough to talk about the movie without giving away anything, so go and see it before someone lets slip what happens... And definitely stay after the credits... 0 comments, Reply to this entry

(A review of Spider-Man 3)Don't worry, I'm not going to stick spoilers in my review while neglecting to say there are spoilers in my title (*hint, hint*) I do enjoy the Spidey series quite a bit, and Sam Raimi, and the random Bruce Campbell cameos. But I digress. I thought it was a really good time, action packed, nice tie-ins with Venom, blah, blah. To be honest, I've never been all that excited about Kirsten as MJ (I think Alicia Witt or Lauren Ambrose would have been good, Laura Prepon, while a redhead, would have made this movie awkward with Topher, would have been like some weird parallel universe thingy). Unfortunately, there was just something missing that the first 2 movies had, not sure what it is, but that's why I gave it a 9/10. To be sure, I like just about everything I watch, I don't pick things apart. I go to get lost in the movie and have a good time in its little fantasy world, and I did that with the movie, so c'mon, go and have an action packed adventure! 0 comments, Reply to this entry

(A review of The Music Man)In my defense, I did see this as a stage production before the movie version. But now I'm so used to this one, I try to watch it here and there. Robert Preston is The Music Man, the traveling, swindling salesman, who "gets his foot caught in the door", and can't rip off an off-beat town after getting attached to the people. Great music and characters and Mrs. Partridge (Shirley Jones) as Marion the Librarian. One of my fav movies, having been a band geek and all. 1 comments, Reply to this entry

(A review of Starship Troopers)Okay, I saw this in the theater with a few friends and we certainly didn't expect to get much out of it. But, when we realized how graphic and violent, over the top and ridiculous it was, we had a good time. Yes, it is kinda stupid at times, but if you don't expect much in terms of scintillating dialog, just stay for the parts where they blow up the bugs and stuff. You don't have to think much while watching this one. 0 comments, Reply to this entry

(A review of Groundhog Day)A lighter movie with Bill Murray which has him stuck in the same day, over and over again. I'm sure you've all seen it. Cool concept which makes you wonder how much one person can change through the course of one day, especially when you learn all the variables. No joke, when this was first out, I watched in twice in the same day. Hm, that's like, irony, or something. "On the DVD, Harold Ramis states that the original idea was for him to live February 2nd for about 10,000 years. Later he says that Phil probably lived the same day for about 10 years." (A review of The Departed)What a wicked good movie, guy. There were a ton of familiar faces in this, and it actually wasn't distracting. Great plot line around Leo and the gang, and he does a heck of a job at playing both sides. Twists and turns and you don't quite know what's going to happen next, or who's going to come out on top... We also paused it during the last 10 mins so we could go eat dinner, that was kinda rough. Honestly, I liked Alec Baldwin in this, I just get a kick out of him. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Turtle Power!

(A review of TMNT)Went to this one with a few people my age, and dare I say it, it was actually good. It was a pleasant surprise to see, as I was secretly hoping that it wouldn't suck big time. The turtles are brought back once more to save the day, and it's a bit more serious than the campy 80's cartoon. But, the animation was of course great, the storyline was decent, and it was just simple and fun. And that's of course what I look for in a movie. I'm big into voice-over actors too, so it was good for me to pick em out. Yeah, I'd pick it up on DVD, after the price dropped a bit. Btw, Leonardo is also the voice of Tidus in FF X. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Run Lola

(A review of Run, Lola, Run)I watched this one in the theater at my college, and I thought it was pretty cool. Lola's bf calls to tell her he's going to rob a bank so he can get some money he owes so he's not rubbed out. What happens is we see several different scenarios based on little changes that could occur with all the variables out there. I'd like to see it again to pick up on the nuances. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
it's only a flesh wound...

(A review of Waxwork II: Lost in Time)I caught this on TV one late night, and had no idea what it was. Then it got to the scene where Bruce Campbell gets salt, vinegar and various things thrown at his open chest wound, and I nearly lost it. Our buddy Mark is jumping through time trying to help his girl and stop evil, movie tries to be a little scary, but it's really just silly. Go for it if you need a couple of cheap laughs and some okay parodies. Best line: "You have wandered into God's Nintendo Game." 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Great music

(A review of Dreamgirls)Yes, I got dragged to this by my gf, but I will say that I did like it. It's got great music (if you like the mo-town style) and I like the fact that it doesn't concentrate on just one character, it covers many. Eddie Murphy was great, but I couldn't help but think of Donkey when he was singing.... 0 comments, Reply to this entry
